Before I get into this, I would like to say that the idea of converting my garage into a home yoga studio came about while I was cleaning out my garage. I noticed the empty space that is never used. The yogi in me quickly became intrigued by the space. All of a sudden, my mind went to yoga. What a nice space this would be to do yoga. Hot yoga at that (which I love), since the garage is naturally hot. Later that evening, as I was finishing up the garage, my husband returned home from work, and I casually ran the idea through him. I had no real intentions of actually doing this. After hearing the idea, he was for it. He jumped right in the day after. In two days, we no longer just had a garage. We had a comfortable home yoga studio for under 200 dollars.

Painting home yoga studio1. We did the walls first. We purchased a bucket of white paint at Home Depot. We painted the walls, which took the whole Friday evening. Saturday morning, we added another layer to give it a bright and bold look. As the paint was drying, I went to a few stores to shop for a few decorations for the studio.

  1. Floor for home yoga studioWe then went shopping for the floors. We decided to go with Wood Vinyl flooring sold in rolls because they look great, are inexpensive, easy to install, and would allow us to easily removed them if needed. We purchased the Vinyl at Home Depot. The vinyl was very easy to install. We first cleaned the floor by sweeping and mopping. Then waited a while for the floor to dry. After the floor dried, we laid the Vinyl flat down and added double-sided table underneath to avoid it from sliding. For extra stability, we added duct tape around the perimeter. Might I also add that the Vinyl can be removed at any time without causing damage to the floor.

  1. After the paint and the floor, one thing was missing. The decorations. I added a beanbag, mirror, plants, and a wooden storage box for my yoga accessories. The decorations for sure pulled everything in.

In 3 easy steps, I now have a comfortable place to practice, to meditate, and to read. After creating this space, I have learned that it is much easier for me to practice consistently. I walk in and have a nice and safe place, and when I am finished, I walk back out without worrying about putting all my yoga accessories and mat back into my closet. Creating this place was well worth it. It has become my happy place.

I hope you become inspire to find a nice place in your home that is not being used that you can start putting to good use.
